The picture looks great, even on non- HD channels. I haven't hooked up a blu - ray player to it yet (this t.v. is in my bedroom and my blu - ray is in the living room) but regular DVDs with an up-converting DVD player look great. ... Even though I do have it connected through my receiver , I find that the built-in volume level perfectly adequate for the room (12' x 12') it is in.
